This 10-hour day tour departs by bus from Hakata Station in Fukuoka and explores Itoshima, a coastal area just west of Fukuoka, in one day. See the cool cascades of Shiraito Falls in the forest, and take photos at the palm tree swing facing the sea and the rope-bound Sakurai Futamigaura Wedded Rocks. You also stop at Sennyoji with its thousand-armed Kannon and arhat statues (admission extra) and the Keya no Oto coast, then end the day at Fukuoka Tower. It is a group tour with an English, Chinese and Japanese-speaking guide.
Program
Depart from Hakata Station
to discover Itoshima's nature and coastline
Check in by 8:45 am at Lawson Oriental Hotel Fukuoka in front of the Hakata Station exit, and depart by bus at 9:00 am sharp. This group tour has up to 45 participants, and the guide speaks English, Chinese and Japanese.
Itoshima lies just west of Fukuoka City and combines beaches, coastal scenery, forests and cafés. After the tour, you return to the same meeting point in the evening.
Explore the forest and temple at Shiraito Falls and Sennyoji
After about an hour by bus, explore Shiraito Falls in the hillside forest with your guide for about 30 minutes. Take a short forest walk and feel the cool mist and the sound of the falls.
Next, visit Raizan Sennyoji Daihioin for about 40 minutes. It houses a 4.8 m thousand-armed Kannon and more than 500 stone arhat statues, each with a different expression, and its old maple trees turn red in autumn. Temple admission (about USD 3) is extra.
Enjoy the sea at the palm tree swing and Sakurai Wedded Rocks
Spend about 30 minutes taking photos with the sea as a backdrop at the beach spot where a wooden swing hangs between two palm trees. You also spend about 30 minutes enjoying the scenery at the Keya no Oto coast. Along the way, you walk a shady forest path nicknamed the "Totoro Forest".
At Sakurai Futamigaura, spend about 1.5 hours seeing the wedded rocks bound by a thick rope and the white torii gate on the sand. It is said that making a wish here brings good luck in love.
End the day at Fukuoka Tower
Back in Fukuoka, spend about 50 minutes at Fukuoka Tower, which has an observation deck at 123 m. Observation deck tickets (about USD 6) are extra, or you can stroll through Momochihama Seaside Park right next to it. Then travel about 30 minutes by bus back to the meeting point.
