Meet incense, conical hat and lacquer artisans
in craft villages near Hanoi
After pickup from your hotel in Hanoi Old Quarter, you travel by bus about 70 minutes to traditional craft villages. With an English-speaking guide, you meet local artisans and learn how incense and conical hats are made.
The half-day tour lasts about 5 hours and visits Chuong hat village and Quang Phu Cau incense village in the morning (7:20-12:30) or afternoon (12:30-17:45). The full-day tour visits all three villages including a lacquer village and includes a home-style lunch. Group and private tours are available.
Capture the colorful incense scenery of Quang Phu Cau

Quang Phu Cau has been producing incense for over 100 years. Walk along the village main street to watch families making incense by hand, and meet a family specializing in dyeing incense sticks to see the colorful bundles. There are photo spots all around the village.
At a nearby workshop, you learn how incense is made from scratch and hear about the lives of the artisans. You can also buy incense as a souvenir where it is produced.
Paint your own conical hat in Chuong village

Chuong village has made the traditional Vietnamese conical hat, non la, for over 300 years. Watch the artisans at work, then join in making and painting a hat yourself. You can take your finished hat home as a souvenir.
The full-day tour adds a lacquer craft village

On the full-day tour, you have a home-style lunch at a local artisan's house or a riverside restaurant, then head to a lacquer craft village in the Ha Tay area. At a large family-run workshop, you learn how lacquerware is made, and you can try lacquering at a local artist's home.
After the tour, the bus returns to central Hanoi. If you wish, you can get off first at Hanoi Train Street.
