This day tour of about 12 hours takes you from Hanoi's Old Quarter to Ninh Binh, about 2 hours and 15 minutes away by bus. Visit the ancient capital of Hoa Lu, cycle through the countryside, ride a sampan boat in Tam Coc, and climb to the Mua Cave viewpoint before returning to the Old Quarter.

Discover ancient Hoa Lu and village life

Spend about 45 minutes in Hoa Lu, Vietnam's capital in the 10th-11th centuries, learning about the country's past. Then hop on a bike for about 30 minutes along quiet country roads toward Bich Dong Pagoda and experience local life and rural scenery up close.

If you prefer not to cycle, you can walk around the village or relax at a local restaurant. Lunch is local Vietnamese food, with vegetarian options available.

Glide through Tam Coc's caves by sampan

In Tam Coc, ride a rowed sampan boat along the river for about 1.5 hours, passing through three caves. Enjoy views of rice fields and limestone peaks from a unique vantage point on the water.

Take in sweeping views from Mua Cave

Climb 500 stone steps up Lying Dragon Mountain to the Mua Cave viewpoint for one of Vietnam's most iconic views over the Ngo Dong River and Tam Coc. After about an hour there, ride the bus for about 2 hours back to Hanoi's Old Quarter.
