Walk Dazaifu Tenmangu
in a kimono
Depart at 8:30 from Lawson in front of the Chikushi exit of Hakata Station for Dazaifu Tenmangu, dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning. With the kimono option, choose from classic to modern kimono at a professional rental shop and stroll past vermilion torii, stone bridges and the shops of the approach street. Kimono can be returned directly on the tour bus.
Nyoirinji, the Frog Temple
Visit Nyoirinji, known as the "Frog Temple" for its thousands of frog statues collected from around the world. From June to September, thousands of colorful wind chimes decorate the grounds, filling the air with gentle ringing.
Yanagawa boat ride and Tosu Premium Outlets
In Yanagawa, the "Venice of Kyushu", ride a traditional donkobune along waterways lined with willows, old bridges and white-walled merchant houses while listening to the boatman's songs (boat fee extra). You may also visit the Tachibana family residence (admission extra). Finally, shop about 170 Japanese and international brands at Tosu Premium Outlets, one of Kyushu's largest outlet malls, before returning to Hakata.
