Highlights

This Kyushu day tour from Fukuoka visits Dazaifu, Yanagawa, Arita and Takeo in one day. Stop at Dazaifu Tenmangu, dedicated to the god of learning, and enjoy free time in Yanagawa, the "Venice of Kyushu", with an optional canal boat ride (extra cost). Walk around Sueyama Shrine, famous for its porcelain torii, and the 400-year-old Arita pottery street, and enjoy a free cup of coffee served in an Arita porcelain cup. Finally, visit the beautiful Takeo City Library.

Program

Dazaifu Tenmangu and
the canals of Yanagawa

Meet at 8:00 at Lawson in front of the Chikushi exit of Hakata Station and depart at 8:10. Spend about 60 minutes at Dazaifu Tenmangu, dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning, enjoying snacks such as umegae mochi and souvenirs along the approach street. Then enjoy about 120 minutes of free time in Yanagawa, the "Venice of Kyushu". You can take a traditional donkobune boat ride (extra cost) and try local specialties such as eel dishes and wagashi.

Sueyama Shrine and Arita pottery street

Spend about 80 minutes at Sueyama Shrine, famous for its porcelain torii and the JR train running through its grounds, and the Arita pottery street with over 400 years of history. At a nearby café, choose one of about 3,000 Arita porcelain cups and enjoy a free cup of coffee. There is no safety fence at the shrine, so watch out for passing trains when taking photos.

Takeo City Library

Explore Takeo City Library, combining a public library, Tsutaya bookstore and café, for about 20 minutes. It is famous for its warm wooden design and tall bookshelves. Afterward, return to Hakata.
