explore Aso and Kumamoto in a day
Depart by tour bus at 9:00 AM from a meeting point near Hakata Station. Visit the Minamiaso Railway, the Aso volcano and Kusasenri, and Kumamoto Castle in turn before returning to Fukuoka. This is a group tour with travelers from many countries, and the guide provides multilingual commentary.
Ride the Minamiaso Railway along the foot of Mt. Aso

At around 11:30 AM, ride the Minamiaso Railway from Tateno Station to Minami-Aso Shirakawa-Suigen Station for about 40 minutes. The train runs slowly through mountains and countryside, with panoramic views of the Five Peaks of Aso, forests, open fields, and clear streams. Each season offers different scenery, from fresh spring greenery and lush summer landscapes to autumn foliage and quiet winter mountains.
The train fare (¥490–2,000 per person) is not included. If you prefer not to take the train, you can ride the tour bus to the next stop.
Enjoy free time at the Aso volcano and Kusasenri

From around 12:50 PM, enjoy about 80–90 minutes of free time in the Aso volcanic area and around Kusasenri, including time for lunch. Stroll across the wide grassland, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and relax while watching grazing animals. Other admission fees, such as the Aso Volcano Museum, are not included.
Stroll around Kumamoto Castle and nearby streets

At around 3:50 PM, arrive at Kumamoto Castle and explore freely for about 60–70 minutes. Walk the beautifully restored castle grounds to learn about samurai stories and traditional architecture, and stroll the nearby streets lined with shops to taste local food. Kumamoto Castle admission (¥800 per person) is not included. Afterwards, return to Fukuoka.
※ The Mt. Aso crater is currently closed due to a helicopter accident and can only be viewed from a distance. Reopening depends on official announcements.
※ Return time may be delayed due to bad weather, traffic, or crowds during Japanese holidays and peak seasons.
※ Seasonal scenery and animals on the grassland vary by season and weather and are not guaranteed.
