Fukuoka Departure: Mt. Aso Crater, Kusasenri & Kurokawa Onsen Tour

Embark on a special journey from Fukuoka to experience the majestic nature of Aso, the heart of Kyushu, and the romantic winter nights of Kurokawa Onsen village in one day.

This tour offers the breath of a living volcano during the day and the warmth of lanterns flowing along the river at night. First, feel the overwhelming openness at Kusasenri, an endless grassland. In winter, you'll have the chance to see a fantastic snowscape covered in white snow, and you can take unforgettable photos against the backdrop of the smoking Nakadake crater.

Next, head to the Nakadake Crater, a living volcano that breathes even now, and face the rough and mysterious scenery before your eyes. The emerald-colored caldera lake and the rising volcanic smoke make you realize the earth's powerful energy. (However, entry to the crater may be restricted depending on local volcanic gas concentration and weather conditions, in which case we will visit 'Daikanbo Observatory', the best panoramic viewpoint where you can see the magnificent caldera terrain of Aso and the five peaks of Aso at a glance.)

The highlight of the tour is Kurokawa Onsen, one of the most romantic hot spring villages in Japan. In particular, this tour focuses on the 'Yuakari' light-up, which is held for a limited time during the winter season from December to March. About 300 round bamboo lanterns are installed along the river that runs through the village, creating a warm and fantastic night view as if you were in a fairy tale. (In February and March, viewing the night view may change depending on the sunset time.) Take a stroll through the quiet hot spring village and soak in the romantic atmosphere. You may also enjoy bathing in the hot springs individually during your free time.
