Depart from Fukuoka and
see a shrine, a volcano, and a hot spring town
This day tour departs from a meeting point near Hakata Station and visits Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, Mt. Aso and Kusasenri, and Kurokawa Onsen in turn. An English- and Chinese-speaking guide accompanies you, and travelers from various countries may join.
Walk the mossy stone steps of
Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine

The first stop is Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, deep in the mountains, where you spend about 45 minutes. It is known as a real-life setting for the anime "Natsume's Book of Friends" and "Into the Forest of Fireflies' Light." Some 260 moss-covered stone steps lead up through towering cedars, lined with more than 100 stone lanterns.
Enjoy the volcanic scenery of Mt. Aso and Kusasenri

Next, head to the Mt. Aso area, one of Japan's best-known active volcano groups. A vast landscape of bare volcanic rock and lush greenery unfolds, and a faint smell of sulfur lingers in the air. If you are sensitive to strong smells, bringing a mask is recommended.
Then spend about 1.5 hours at the Kusasenri grassland. The surrounding peaks are reflected in the pond in the middle of the meadow, and you can stroll along the paths enjoying blue skies, green pastures, and distant mountains.
Relax in Kurokawa Onsen at dusk

Finally, arrive at Kurokawa Onsen around dusk and stay for about 1.5 hours. In this quiet hot spring town, where traditional wooden buildings light up and steam mingles with the mountain mist, you can stroll, shop, and unwind. Hot spring admission is not included.
※ Following the recent helicopter accident on Mt. Aso, traffic controls are in place and Mt. Aso can only be viewed from a distance. The guide will adjust the visit time depending on conditions.
※ On weekends and Japanese public holidays, the route, order of stops, and time at each stop may change due to traffic or early closures.
※ In winter (December 1 – February 28), the departure time is adjusted to 8:00 AM.
※ Natural scenery such as the grasslands and horses varies by season and weather and is not guaranteed.
