Beijing Mutianyu Great Wall Day Tour

Leave Beijing for
the Mutianyu Great Wall

Choose between a group tour where you meet your guide at a downtown meeting point, or a private tour where a dedicated driver and guide pick you up from your hotel within the 4th Ring Road. The drive from central Beijing to Mutianyu takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Ride the cable car or chairlift up to the wall

On arrival, take the cable car up and down to Watchtower 14, or ride the chairlift up, walk along the wall and come down by toboggan near Watchtower 6. Depending on your fitness, spend 2 hours or more on the wall, admiring the rare triangle of three connected watchtowers and the ramparts winding along the ridges.

Below the westernmost tower, a 200-meter slogan reading "Loyalty to Chairman Mao (忠于毛主席)" is laid out on the ridge. Your guide can also tell you about Mao Zedong's famous line, "He who has not climbed the Great Wall is not a true man (不到长城非好汉)".

Add more sights to fill your day

You can head straight back after the Great Wall, or depending on your option, continue to the Summer Palace, the Forbidden City or the Ming Tombs, or watch the sunset at Gubei Water Town and the Simatai Great Wall. There is also an option to have lunch in a local village near Mutianyu.

Hike the Jiankou and Jinshanling sections

If you love hiking, choose a private hike along the wall from Jiankou to Mutianyu with a guide, or a hiking tour covering both Mutianyu and Jinshanling. There are also options with round-trip transportation and tickets only (no guide), or with tickets and a round-trip cable car only.
