La guida è stata bravissima, abbiamo mangiato bene e abbondantemente, il giro in bici è stato adorabile come anche incontrare le donne del paese che ci hanno mostrato il lavoro al telaio e danze festive. Sfortunatamente il viaggio è lungo in minibus per questo il tempo è poco a mai chau ed è un peccato.

Great short bike loop through the villages and rice fields of Mai Chau. It was especially interesting to get more background information about the local ethnic minority, also giving you the chance try out some of the activities they show you. The bikes were not the best/most comfortable but I could make do.

The place was beautiful, and the lunch amazing! Our guide Sonny was the best and show us around, He also shared some of the history and culture of the Vietnamese minority living there. It was a really meaningful experience, I just wish we’d had more time!

The bus ride to the Mai Chau Valley takes quite some time, but the view of the valley with its many green rice fields makes up for it. The residents of the valley are all extremely friendly and welcoming. We were able to observe the weaving art and the traditional stick dances. The stilt houses were also interesting, as well as visiting their interiors. Dan, our tour guide, explained everything in great detail and showed us interesting photo spots during the bike ride. We can highly recommend Dan as a tour guide.

Highlights

Leave Hanoi behind and spend a day cycling through Mai Chau Valley, surrounded by mountains and rice fields. On the way, stop at Thung Khe Pass to take in views over the valley, then enjoy a traditional lunch with a local White Thai family. In the afternoon, ride along village lanes between the paddies to Poom Coong and Na Phon villages and see Thai traditions such as weaving up close. Choose the 2-day option to stay overnight in Mai Chau and trek to the rice terraces of Pu Luong Nature Reserve.

Head from Hanoi to Mai Chau Valley
and cycle through Thai villages

This tour takes you by vehicle from Hanoi to the peaceful countryside of Mai Chau to discover the valley's scenery and Thai culture. For the day trip, you can choose to depart from Hanoi or start locally in Mai Chau, while the 2-day option includes an overnight stay in Mai Chau and a visit to Pu Luong. An English-speaking guide, meals, entrance fees and bicycles are included.

Take in the valley views from Thung Khe Pass

After leaving Hanoi, you'll take a short break along the way and stop at Thung Khe Pass before reaching Mai Chau to admire the valley below. On arrival, enjoy a welcome drink, then a traditional lunch with a White Thai family in a local village. Vegetarian options are available.

Cycle along rice fields and Thai villages

In the afternoon, ride a bicycle past rice fields and quiet village lanes to Poom Coong and Na Phon villages. Meet local farmers, watch traditional weaving and see daily life in the Thai community up close. You'll then have free time to stroll the village or browse handicrafts, and day trip guests return to Hanoi by vehicle.

The 2-day option adds a trek to the Pu Luong rice terraces

On the 2-day option, enjoy a traditional dinner and a Thai folk dance performance in the evening, and spend the night in a stilt house. Groups of 5 or more may also get to taste Ruou Can, a local rice wine.

On day 2, after breakfast, travel to Pu Luong Nature Reserve, surrounded by mountains and forest, and trek past rice terraces and remote villages. After lunch in a village, return to Mai Chau and continue by vehicle to Hanoi's Old Quarter, arriving in the evening.

※ There are no rice terraces in Mai Chau. Rice terraces can only be seen in Pu Luong.
※ On days with few participants, the guide does not travel from Hanoi. The driver will take you to Mai Chau, where you will meet your guide.
