Ine Funaya
Depart at 7:20 from Exit 2 of Nipponbashi Station for northern Kyoto. In Ine, spend about 60 minutes around the bay lined with about 230 funaya, two-story houses with a boat garage below and living space above. On the Ine Bay sightseeing boat you can feed the seagulls following the boat and admire the funaya from the water (boat ticket included in the cable car option). Then enjoy a relaxed stroll along the waterfront.
Amanohashidate, one of Japan's three great views
Enjoy about 2 hours of free time at Amanohashidate, a 3.6 km pine-lined sandbar across Miyazu Bay. Go up to a viewpoint for the "ascending dragon" view, walk the sandbar or cross the swing bridge. Lunch is at your own cost at nearby restaurants serving local seafood. Also stop at Chion-ji, where people pray for success in study and work, and see its fan-shaped omikuji.
Thatched village of Miyama Kayabuki no Sato
At Miyama Kayabuki no Sato, one of Japan's three great thatched-roof villages, spend about 40 minutes among about 38 traditional farmhouses between streams and rice fields. Depart around 15:40 and arrive at Nipponbashi around 17:40 (may vary with traffic).
