Ride about 1.5 hours to Mutianyu in an air-conditioned private vehicle. You can choose your start time, and on public holidays or weekends it is best to leave early to avoid the crowds.
Walk the wall at your own pace
On arrival, the driver helps you buy tickets and then leaves you to explore on your own. Depending on your arrival time, you usually have about 3 hours to hike the wall and take photos. You can ride the cable car up or the toboggan down, but these cost extra.
Return to Beijing after the tour
After visiting the wall, your driver takes you back to your hotel in Beijing. Options also include a private night tour with an English-speaking driver and a private night tour of the Badaling Great Wall.
