Walk through Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City

Spend about 40 minutes at Tiananmen Square before heading to the Forbidden City. Walk through the heart of the imperial palace where Ming and Qing emperors lived, and admire its palaces and cultural heritage. Entrance to the Forbidden City is included.

Walk the Great Wall at the quieter Mutianyu section

The drive from central Beijing to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall takes about 1.5 hours. Mutianyu is a little farther than Badaling but tends to be less crowded, and the fully restored wall has handrails on the steep parts. Spend about 2.5 hours walking the wall and taking in the sweeping views. Great Wall entrance and the shuttle bus are included; the cable car, chairlift, and toboggan are available separately. After the tour, you'll be dropped off at your hotel.
