Depart from Fukuoka
and visit Nyoirinji, the Frog Temple
Board a coach at the meeting point near Hakata Station and travel about 1 hour to Nyoirinji. Founded in 729 during the Nara period, the temple is famous for its countless frog statues in various poses and is known as a place where travelers pray for a safe return. Spend about 40 minutes exploring the stone steps winding through the forest and taking photos with the frog statues. During the wind chime festival from June 1 to September 30, thousands of hand-painted wind chimes ring in the breeze, adding a summery atmosphere.
Admire Mt. Yufu and stroll through Yufuin hot spring town

A drive of about 1 hour brings you to Mt. Yufu, where you’ll spend about 40 minutes enjoying the mountain scenery. Then head to Yufuin hot spring town for about 1 hour 50 minutes of free time. Wander alleys lined with ivy-covered buildings, art cafés, dessert shops and craft stores while shopping and enjoying snacks. From December 10 to March 10, when the Mt. Yufu trailhead is closed, your time in Yufuin is extended by 30 minutes.
Discover geothermal landscapes at the Beppu Hells

About 20 minutes from Yufuin, spend around 40 minutes on the Beppu Hells tour. Visit Umi Jigoku (Sea Hell), known for its 98°C blue hot spring, and Kamado Jigoku, where white steam rises from red and blue hot springs. Admission to both is included. Afterwards, a drive of about 2 hours 20 minutes takes you back to the original meeting point.
