From Fukuoka: Dazaifu & Beppu Mt. Tsurumi Ropeway and Yufuin Day Tour

Depart at 8:30 AM by comfortable bus from the meeting point near Hakata Station. Throughout the tour, a multilingual guide (English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean) shares the history, culture and local legends of each destination.

Walk the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu

Spend about 1.5 hours at Dazaifu Tenmangu, the head shrine of about 12,000 Tenmangu shrines across Japan. Dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of learning and culture, it features a crimson main hall, the legendary "flying plum tree" (Tobiume) and the Taikobashi bridge over a heart-shaped pond.

Stroll the lively approach and try umegae mochi, a freshly baked local specialty, if you like.

Ride the ropeway to the summit of Mt. Tsurumi

Head to Beppu and ride the Beppu Ropeway on Mt. Tsurumi. The 1,816 m cable car climbs to 1,375 m in about 10 minutes, with 360° views over Beppu Bay, the city below and the surrounding volcanic peaks. At the top you can explore the observation deck, walking trails and a tea house. The ropeway fare is paid separately on site.

Stroll Yufuin and Lake Kinrin

In the afternoon, enjoy about 2 hours 20 minutes in Yufuin for lunch and free time. Walk Yunotsubo Street, a pedestrian street lined with artisan shops, dessert cafés and craft stores, and visit Lake Kinrin, where Mt. Yufu is reflected on the water. If you wish, stop by a foot bath café or the Yufuin Showakan museum (extra cost). After Yufuin, return to the meeting point by bus in about 2 hours.
